It is only through communication that we can make our thoughts known and form meaningful relationships with the people around us. Hence, the need for effective social skills in modern society. Oftentimes, what determines the way a person is viewed or the opportunities they are exposed to is their ability to express themselves and utilise social skills to make their thoughts known. Not everyone has the ability to form relationships with strangers. This is why so many talented people are not taken as seriously as they should be. In many leadership roles, people look out for individuals who are charismatic, bold and charming, people who are quick on their feet and can strike up a conversation with a stranger they have never met before. In a public place, the fear of rejection may stop you from approaching a stranger, even if you find them attractive. Several people suffer from the fear of rejection, whether they realise it or not, and more often than not, it could lead to regrets. There are many reasons why an individual could have a fear of rejection, and it can get worse if left unattended for a long time. Admittedly, it is not easy to eliminate the fear of rejection at once, but there are tips that could help make it easier. Enhanced self-regulation: Self-regulation refers to a person’s ability to recognise and bring their emotional responses under conscious control. The more able you are to identify negative thoughts and feelings such as fear, the more likely you are to find solutions that work. Build resilience: This is the ability and willingness to keep moving forward in spite of challenges that make the situation difficult. Resilience will make it possible for you to talk to a complete stranger in spite of the fear you feel.
